now page
Things I'm doing recently on envs.netOn this page you'll find what I'm going to do in the forseeable future here on the envs.net pubnix.
My Shell Account
I'm steadily setting up my shell account at dan@envs.net. I switched from byobu to tmux, which starts a new session if none is present and otherwise connects to the existing one if one is present, directly over ssh.
I switched my shell to ZSH from bash and now I'm continuously configuring everything to my needs. I already made NeoVim my default $EDITOR, which was a bit tricky since it had some glitches when running with a proper set $TERM variable. I'm still in the process of creating workarounds, but it's already in a very usable state.
I'm tinkering with the provided environment and am constantly changing, adding and swapping features and apps, and play around with all those provided cli gadgets and gizmos.
My Gopher Hole
I set up a Gopher Hole, which I planned to use as my main publishing platform for posts. However, I'm in the process of retiring my phlog in favor of my blogging platform I'm developing myself here on envs.net.
My Web Site
At the moment I'm writing my static pages directly in HTML/PHP from the template, which I tweaked a little. I like having the same style as most of the other users and my pages are all based on the CSS of the community main site.
I'm also using my blog management engine built by myself. It's still a WIP but it's already useable. My blog will be the main place for posting about my experiences, lessons learned, tutorials, own projects here on the pubnix and other updates. But you may find some "off-topic" stuff there as as well.
I'm in the process of retiring my gopher phlog as my posting platform in favor of my WWW blog, so recent updates will now be placed on my blog. There is also a an RSS feed file for my blog posts which you can follow.
I'm trying to make this site as indieweb compliant as I can. But this is a mid-to-long-term goal and I'm steadily working on it.
I've also installed the Single File PHP Gallery for my photo and image collections. It was very easy to set up and also supports multiple collections in subfolders. It seems a very good solution and fits perfectly in a minimal setup environment, although it makes a little use of JS. But I'll collect pictures constantly there over time.
My Gemini Page
My Gemini page is just one informational page and I think I won't create another big Gemini site, because I already have a relatively big Gemini site at redterminal.org. So it'll probably stay a very small site with only a few pages unless it stays one single page. So not much work on that end.
My Finger Timeline
I'm using my '~/.plan' file (which is served over '$ finger dan@envs.net | less' over the commandline for example) to create a continuous timeline and changelog, with small notes about what I'm doing. It's already relatively long and I believe it will grow very big over time. So keep that in mind. But it's in reverse chronological order, so the newest changes are at the top. There you can follow my progress in detail and I planned to keep it updated nearly daily, at least in this early stage when there's still a lot to do.
A lot of fun
So I'm having a lot of fun work to do in the mid term. But once I've left the newbie state, I think there are more projects to come. I can only say I don't regret having signed up to envs.net and I really enjoy using this multiuser environment.
So that's what I'm going to do in the midterm. I hope everybody is having fun, an that's it for now.
Best wishes, ~dan
