Some personal information about ~danSome prsonal information
Welcome on ~dan's website on the envs.net pubnix. I joined the envs.net tilde community on Mon, 12 Jan 2026.
I wanted to join a pubnix/tilde for a long time now, but I was uncertain what it's like and what's expected from myself. But it seems all the tildizens and pubnix users are a very nice and helpful bunch of folks. And it seems, that the envs.net pubnix is the right one for me.
You can also reach me over XMPP with my JID dan@envs.net and I'm mostly present in the "envs" and "lounge" MUC rooms on the conference.envs.net MUC server, if you want some more direct chat.
However, I already made some good experiences here on envs.net and find my way around. I hope to learn, build and make new experiences on this pubnix. I've never participated in a shared multiuser Linux environment yet, and by now it's a lot of fun with the other creatives, tinkerers, makers, hackers and like-minded people.
I'm an enthusiastic and zealous computer nerd and hobbyist, although I never worked in the IT field as a professional. All I know has been done through learning-by-doing, out of curiosity or to fix some special problem or need. I'm especially at home in the shell and a keyboard-centric environment like AwesomeWM, which I use on all of my laptops/workstation.
I'm using Artix Linux (systemd free Arch) on all of my working machines, diverse Linux distibutions like Alpine Linux or Debian on my Proxmox cluster and Raspberry Pi OS on my Incus (VM/container manager) cluster with 4x Raspberry Pi 4 (8GB) for tinkering, but I have 2 VPSs running FreeBSD too, which I like to operate very much.
I'll mostly use my blog to make posts about my setups, experiences and projects on envs.net pubnix/tilde, but you may also find some "offtopic" posts there. There is also an RSS feed file which you can follow. At first I wanted to only use my Gopher phlog to make new posts, but I decided to make my blog my main means to post updates.
Well, that's it for a first introduction. I think we'll have a good time together.
Best wishes,
~dan
